Autumn is almost here and this is my favorite way to use the red delicious apples!I also love the taste of black walnuts in this recipe.When made in the 9X12 it comes together in a jiffy. For "company" I make it in the tube pan and add the extra nuts to the glaze.

Ingredients
- - 2 cups all purpose flour
- - 2 tsp baking soda
- - 3/4 tsp salt
- - 1 3/4 cups white sugar
- - 1/2 cup butter melted
- - 1 tbs of canola oil
- - 2 tsp vanilla
- - 1 tsp cinnamon
- - 4 cups shredded sweet unpeeled apples (red delicious is best)
- - 1/2 cup chopped black walnuts
- CAKE GLAZE
- - 1 stick salted butter
- - 1 cup dark brown sugar
- - 1 tsp vanilla
- - 1/4 cup evaporated milk
- - 1/4 cup black walnuts chopped fine (optional)
- FRENCH APPLE CAKE
- OOPS! 3 - eggs need to be added to the cake mixture-duh....sorry
How To Make french apple cake

Step 1preheat oven 350-grease and flour 9x12 or tube cake pan

Step 2Combine butter ,oil,vanilla, eggs and cinnamon-stir-stir in soda and salt and sugar, then add flour,stir with spoon,mix will be thick. Stir in the apples and nuts last place in pan and bake approx.50 min. for 9x12 and 1 hr. for tube

Step 3combine glaze ingredients in saucepan over medium heat,bring to a boil and boil and stir for 3 minutes- poke holes in cake and pour over cake while cake is still warm and glaze is hot- the 9x12 still in pan, or the tube plated for a more formal occasion -Bon Appetit!
