Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/3 cup butter-flavored shortening or butter
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • - oil for frying
  • - sugar for coating

How To Make for you lillian, chinese doughnuts

  • Step 1
    Mix flour, salt, and baking powder in a mediun sized mixing bowl.
  • Step 2
    Crumble and incorporate the shortening or butter into the flour mixture until there are no large clumps remaining.
  • Step 3
    Add the milk and stir just until the dough forms into a ball
  • Step 4
    Knead 8 to 12 times. Do not over knead.
  • Step 5
    Heat an inch or two of oil over medium to medium-high heat.
  • Step 6
    Take a 1/4 cup of dough and roll it into a ball. Gently flatten to resemble a biscuit shape.
  • Step 7
    Fry in oil until both sides are very lightly browned, about 2 minutes per side.
  • Step 8
    Roll the doughnut around on a plate of sugar.
