My Mom's recipe for one of Daddy's favorite cakes.

Ingredients

  • 1 pint fig preserves
  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 4 - eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups pecans, in pieces

How To Make fig cake

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Cream sugar and butter; add beaten eggs.
  • Step 2
    Mix buttermilk and soda and then add to first mixture.
  • Step 3
    Add flour gradually, add nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon.
  • Step 4
    Add fig preserves, vanilla and nuts.
  • Step 5
    Bake in tube pan 1 1/2 hours or until done at 300 degrees. This is a very dense cake.
