These are truly delicious! I make these every so often just because they are one of my favorite bars to make and eat! Great for the holidays but also any time, trust me! **Estimated Cook Time is just total time estimation from beginning to end.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour, gold medal all purpose
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/2 cup margarine, softened
  • 1 teaspoon orange peel, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 - egg
  • 1/4 cup flour, gold medal all purpose
  • 2 1/2 cups cherries, candied
  • 1 package pitted dates, 8 oz, cut in half
  • 1 cup pecans, coarsely chopped pecans or filberts (i use pecans)
  • ORANGE GLAZE
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice, fresh

How To Make festive fruitcake bars

  • Step 1
    Heat oven to 350ºF. Grease and flour rectangular pan, 13x9x2 inches. In large bowl, mix 1 cup flour, the brown sugar, butter, orange peel, baking soda, cinnamon, salt and egg with spoon.
  • Step 2
    In medium bowl, mix 1/4 cup flour, the cherries, dates and pecans; stir into brown sugar mixture. Spread in pan.
  • Step 3
    Bake about 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely, about 1 hour.
