Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2 c
    granulated sugar
  • 3/4 c
    unsweetened baking cocoa
  • 2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 c
    strong black coffee, cooled
  • 1 c
    buttermilk
  • 1/2 c
    vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • FROSTING INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/2 c
    margarine, softened
  • 2 oz
    unsweetened baking chocolate, melted and cooled
  • 3 c
    confectioners' sugar
  • 3 Tbsp
    milk
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla extract

How to Make Favorite Chocolate Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powser, and salt. Add eggs, coffee, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla, Beat at medium speed for two minutes. (Batter will be thin). Pour batter into prepared pans.
  3. Bake for 30-35 minutes.
  4. Frosting:
    Combine all frosting ingredients with a hand mixer. Spread frosting on cooled cakes. (I freeze my cakes first and then frost them while still frozen)
