This was my mother's go-to recipe for a moist and delicious cake. It was good with or without frosting but so delicious with fresh fruit and whipped cream.

Ingredients
- 1 cup vegetable shortening
- 2 sticks margarine
- 3 cups granulated sugar
- 5 large eggs, room temperature
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 tablespoons flavoring ( vanilla or lemon)

Step 1Cream together softened margarine and shortening; add sugar and mix until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and mix well. Sift together flour, salt, and baking powder and add to mixture alternately with buttermilk. Add vanilla and mix well. Pour into a greased and floured tube pan and bake at 325 for 1 1/2 hours
