This was my mother's go-to recipe for a moist and delicious cake. It was good with or without frosting but so delicious with fresh fruit and whipped cream.

  • 1 c
    vegetable shortening
  • 2 stick
  • 3 c
    granulated sugar
  • 5 large
    eggs, room temperature
  • 3 1/2 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1/4 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 c
  • 2 Tbsp
    flavoring ( vanilla or lemon)

How to Make Family Reunion Pound Cake


  1. Cream together softened margarine and shortening; add sugar and mix until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and mix well. Sift together flour, salt, and baking powder and add to mixture alternately with buttermilk. Add vanilla and mix well. Pour into a greased and floured tube pan and bake at 325 for 1 1/2 hours
