This is an old recipe from 1941. My grampa use to make this when I was younger & then my mom took it over.

It is made in an 8 inch square pan.

Ingredients

2 c
sifted flour
3 tsp
baking powder
2 Tbsp
sugar
1/2 tsp
salt
1/4 c
shortening
1
egg, beaten
3/4 c
milk
1/4 c
butter
1/2 c
firmly packed brown sugar
1 tsp
cinnamon
1 Tbsp
heavy cream
2 c
thinly sliced apples

How to Make DUTCH APPLE CAKE

Step-by-Step

  • 1FIRST MIXTURE: Sift flour, baking powder & salt together; add sugar.

    Cut in shortening thoroughly.
  • 2Combine egg & milk; add to first mixture to make a soft dough.

    Set aside......
  • 3BOTTOM LAYER: Crust - - Melt butter; add brown sugar, cinnamon & heavy cream - mix well.

    Turn into greased 8 inch square pan.
  • 4Press apple slices into crust mixture & then spread dough (first mixture) over apples.
  • 5Bake at 350 degrees for about 50 minutes.

    Serve with whipped cream....
