This is an old recipe from 1941. My grampa use to make this when I was younger & then my mom took it over. It is made in an 8 inch square pan.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 - egg, beaten
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream
  • 2 cups thinly sliced apples

How To Make dutch apple cake

  • Step 1
    FIRST MIXTURE: Sift flour, baking powder & salt together; add sugar. Cut in shortening thoroughly.
  • Step 2
    Combine egg & milk; add to first mixture to make a soft dough. Set aside......
  • Step 3
    BOTTOM LAYER: Crust - - Melt butter; add brown sugar, cinnamon & heavy cream - mix well. Turn into greased 8 inch square pan.
  • Step 4
    Press apple slices into crust mixture & then spread dough (first mixture) over apples.
  • Step 5
    Bake at 350 degrees for about 50 minutes. Serve with whipped cream....
