This is an old recipe from 1941. My grampa use to make this when I was younger & then my mom took it over. It is made in an 8 inch square pan.

Ingredients
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1 - egg, beaten
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon heavy cream
- 2 cups thinly sliced apples

Step 1FIRST MIXTURE: Sift flour, baking powder & salt together; add sugar. Cut in shortening thoroughly.

Step 2Combine egg & milk; add to first mixture to make a soft dough. Set aside......

Step 3BOTTOM LAYER: Crust - - Melt butter; add brown sugar, cinnamon & heavy cream - mix well. Turn into greased 8 inch square pan.

Step 4Press apple slices into crust mixture & then spread dough (first mixture) over apples.

Step 5Bake at 350 degrees for about 50 minutes. Serve with whipped cream....
