The cake mix I used was Betty Crocker Super Moist Triple Chocolate Fudge. It has pudding in the mix! This is a favorite of my son.

Blue Ribbon Recipe

This cake reminds us of a Black Forest cake, but with a cheesecake filling. Starting with a boxed chocolate cake mix, other pantry ingredients are added to create a wonderful dessert. Cherry pie filling is folded into the batter to add cherry flavor to the chocolate cake, and gives the cake almost a fudgy texture. A cheesecake ribbon throughout the center is rich and creamy.

Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (15.25 oz)
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 5 large eggs, divided
  • 1 can cherry pie filling (21 oz)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons butter
  • 1/4 cup white chocolate chips
  • 2 teaspoons corn syrup, light
  • marashino cherries, optional

The icing is a thick icing that gets hard as it cools. We spooned it over the cake while warm.
  • Beat 3 eggs with a mixer.
    Step 1
    Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Beat 3 eggs with a mixer.
  • Add cake mix.

    Add dry cake mix.
  • Add oil and mix.
    Step 3
    Then add the oil and mix well with a mixer.
  • Add cherry pie filling.

    Add the cherry pie filling.
  • Fold into batter. Reserve 1 cup of batter.

    Stir until well blended. Keep back 1 cup of batter.
  • Pour remaining batter into a greased Bundt pan.
    Step 6
    Pour the rest of the batter into a greased Bundt pan. Set aside.
  • Combine cream cheese and granulated sugar.
    Step 7
    Combine cream cheese and sugar, mixing well.
  • Blend in eggs.
    Step 8
    Blend in the remaining 2 eggs, one at a time, until well blended.
  • Pour into the Bundt pan.
    Step 9
    Pour the batter into the pan over the chocolate batter.
  • Spoon batter over the cream cheese mixture.
    Step 10
    Spoon reserved batter over cream cheese.
  • Bake for an hour.
    Step 11
    Bake at 350 degrees F for 1 hour.
  • In a double boiler, combine butter, white chocolate chips, and corn syrup in a double boiler.
    Step 12
    When the cake is baked, combine butter, white chocolate chips, and corn syrup in a double boiler.
  • Cook over low heat until melted.
    Step 13
    Cook over low heat until the chocolate is melted.
  • Remove cake from the Bundt pan.
    Step 14
    Remove the cake from the Bundt pan.
  • Drizzle white chocolate mixture.
    Step 15
    Drizzle white chocolate mixture over the slightly cooled cake. For looks, you can add a few maraschino cherries on top.
