Who the heck is Dorthea?? Heck if I know, but the old girl made a fine cake! I borrowed a book from the library years ago and this recipe of "Dorthea's" was tucked in the pages. So, Dorthea, if you would like your recipe back, here it is! lol

Ingredients

  • CAKE
  • 1 package yellow cake mix (9x13)
  • 1 can mandarin oranges (large)
  • 3 large eggs
  • - peel of 1 orange (just the orange part), grated
  • FROSTING
  • 3/4 package powdered sugar
  • 1/2 can evaporated milk
  • 1/4 cup crisco
  • - grated orange peel to decorate top

How To Make dorthea's incredible orange cake & frosting

  • Step 1
    FOR CAKE: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Step 2
    Pour yellow cake mix in a bowl. Add 3 beaten eggs and 1 can of mandarin oranges. (Use juice from can if mix seems too thick.) Stir in orange peel.
  • Step 3
    Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes.
  • Step 4
    FOR FROSTING: Mix 1/2 bag powdered sugar, Crisco and evaporated milk with hand mixer. Continue to add powdered sugar until the desired consistency is reached.
  • Step 5
    Top with grated orange peel. Makes a lot of frosting so you will have some to use for another use.
