death by chocolate cake

This is a sheet cake that both of my grandmothers used to make. One called it Oklahoma, one called it Texas, and they were very close in flavor. I call it Death by Chocolate because it is so rich and chocolatey I think it just might have the ability to kill! LOL I've seen some similar recipes on here, but this one is just a little different than the ones I've seen, so I'm posting it. If you need a chocolate fix, look no further, this one will tide you over for quite a while! LOL Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 2 - eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • FOR ICING:
  • 1 stick butter
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa
  • 5 tablespoons buttermilk
  • 1 box powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup nuts, optional

How To Make death by chocolate cake

  • Step 1
    Mix first flour, sugar and baking soda together and set aside. In saucepan, mix cocoa, water and butter together. Bring to boil and cool. Add flour mixture and remaining ingredients, mix well. Pour into greased and floured cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 min., or until done.
  • Step 2
    For Icing: Melt butter in saucepan. Add cocoa and buttermilk; cook until it separates. Remove from heat and stir in powdered sugar, vanilla and nuts. Mix well. Spread over cake.
