death by chocolate cake

I adopted this one and made a few changes. The cake is like an earthquake cake and very rich. I added the optional icings. They both are good with the cake but make it even more rich. The photo is without icing.

Ingredients

  • CAKE INGREDIENTS
  • 1 package german chocolate cake mix
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1 stick butter, softened
  • 1 pound powdered sugar
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup coconut
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips (opt)
  • ICING I (OPTIONAL)
  • 1 pint whipping cream (you don't have to use it all)
  • 1/2 stick margarine
  • 1 pound powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice concentrate
  • ICING II (OPTIONAL)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 5 tablespoons margarine
  • 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips

How To Make death by chocolate cake

  • Step 1
    Cake Directions:
  • Step 2
    Grease and flour 9x13 cake pan.
  • Step 3
    Put coconut and pecans in bottom of pan.
  • Step 4
    Mix cake mix according to directions on box. If using chocolate chips, stir into cake batter.
  • Step 5
    Pour over nuts and coconut.
  • Step 6
    Mix cream cheese, butter, vanilla & powdered sugar.
  • Step 7
    Drop by spoonfuls on top of cake.
  • Step 8
    Bake at 350 for 45 minutes or until done.
  • Step 9
    Optional Icing I Directions:
  • Step 10
    Melt butter and add to box of powdered sugar.
  • Step 11
    Add lemon juice.
  • Step 12
    Slowly add whipping creme.
  • Step 13
    Pour over warm cake. (Cool cake for about 20 minutes)
  • Step 14
    Optional Icing II Directions:
  • Step 15
    Combine sugar, butter and milk. Boil for 1 minute.
  • Step 16
    Remove from heat and add chocolate chips.
  • Step 17
    Pour over warm cake. (Cool cake for about 20 minutes)
