Ingredients
- 1 package pitted dates, chopped
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 3/4 cups flour
- 1 egg
- vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
- ICING
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
How To Make date cake & icing, ma

Step 1Pour water over dates and let simmer until thick. Let date mixture cool while mixing second part. Then add alternately with flour and date mixture. Doesn't have to be entirely cool. Bake at 350 degrees 35 min.

Step 2Icing: Mix, spread on cake while still hot and bake 5 more min.
