I always wanted to make a cake in a Crock Pot. So now I do! The smell of this cake will drive you crazy.

Super chocolaty, moist, and easy to make in a slow cooker? That's this chocolate cake recipe. It's perfect for those days when your oven is preparing other dishes, but you need a dessert. Warm and gooey, it's amazing served with ice cream and chocolate syrup for a top-notch dessert. We were thrilled with both the unique technique of preparing this in the Crock Pot and the finished product.

Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 4 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 pint sour cream
  • 1 small instant chocolate pudding box (3.4 oz)
  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • chocolate syrup, for serving
  • vanilla ice cream, for serving

We made this in an 8-quart slow cooker.
  • Mix the cake mix, eggs, oil, water, sour cream, and pudding mix.
    Step 1
    Mix the cake mix, eggs, oil, water, sour cream, and chocolate pudding mix. (I use my mixer set to low.)
  • Fold in the chocolate chips.
    Step 2
    Add chocolate chips and mix in by hand.
  • Spray the crock of a slow cooker with non-stick spray.
    Step 3
    Spray a large Crock Pot with non-stick spray. If your pot runs a little hot, line it with heavy-duty aluminum foil.
  • Spread the cake batter into the slow cooker.
    Step 4
    Spread the cake batter in the slow cooker.
  • Cover and cook on low 4 - 5 hours not opening the lid.
    Step 5
    Cook on low for 4 - 5 hours. Do not open the lid.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup.
    Step 6
    Serve with vanilla ice cream and drizzle with chocolate syrup.
