I originally found the recipe when searching for a recipe for a good red velvet cake. This recipe comes from the Waldorf Astoria Red Velvet Cake recipe. Both the cake and the frosting are awesome! I discovered that this frosting goes great on other cakes, especially the Black Magic Cake. It's light and creamy, but not too sweet. It looks & tastes like whipped cream.

yield Generously frosts 13 x9 or 2 to 3 layers

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup butter (must be real butter)

How To Make creamy white frosting

  • Step 1
    Add milk to flour slowly, avoiding lumps. Cook flour and milk until very thick, stirring constantly. (Pudding consistency) Cool completely.
  • Step 2
    Cream sugar, butter and vanilla until fluffy.
  • Step 3
    Add completely cooled thickened milk/flour mixturer to butter/sugar mixture in mixing bowl and beat at high speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
