This has been passed down in my family from my great grandmother not sure if it goes back further but her parents were from scotland, maybe thats the origin.

  • 3/4 c
    oleo (crisco/shortening)
  • 2 c
    brown sugar
  • 2
    egg yolks
  • 1 tsp
  • 1 tsp
  • 1/2 tsp
    allspice, ground
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 c
    cold coffee
  • 3 c
  • 1 c
    raisins (optional)

How to Make coffee cookies


  1. combine all ingredents, till well mixed.
  2. butter and flour a pan 13x9 for cake like or a jelly roll pan for thinner bar/cookie like.
  3. pour in batter in pan bake for about 35 minutes at 350 degrees
  4. let cool top with the following powder sugar icing
  5. 1 cup powdered sugar
    3 tablespoons butter
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    6-8 tablespoons water or milk

    combine all add just enough water/milk till the thickness you want
