Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1.25 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 - eggs
  • 6 - milk chocolate bars (1.55 ounces each), melted
  • 2.5 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 dash salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup chocolate syrup
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • - confectioners' sugar

How To Make classic chocolate bar cake

  • Step 1
    Heat oven to 350.
  • Step 2
    Grease and flour 10-inch tube pan or 12-cup fluted tube pan.
  • Step 3
    In large mixer bowl, beat butter until creamy; gradually add granulated sugar, beating on medium speed of electric mixer until well blended.
  • Step 4
    Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Step 5
    Add chocolate; beat until blended.
  • Step 6
    Stir together flour, baking soda and salt; add to chocolate mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating until blended.
  • Step 7
    Add syrup and vanilla; beat until blended.
  • Step 8
    Stir in pecans.
  • Step 9
    Pour batter into prepared pan.
  • Step 10
    Bake 1 hour and 15 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center of cake comes out clean.
  • Step 11
    Cool 10 minutes; remove from pan to wire rack.
  • Step 12
    Cool completely. Sift powdered sugar over top, if desired.
