This is, hands down, my favorite cake on the planet. If you love chocolate, this is perfection. If you try nothing else that I post, try this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 c
    flour
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 stick
    butter
  • 1 c
    water
  • 1/2 c
    crisco
  • 3 Tbsp
    cocoa powder
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 c
    buttermilk
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • ICING

  • 1 stick
    butter
  • 3 Tbsp
    cocoa powder
  • 6 Tbsp
    milk
  • 1 box
    powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla

How to Make Chocolate Sheet Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. CAKE: In a large bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, and salt
  2. In a saucepan, put your butter, water, Crisco, and cocoa. Bring to a boil and pour over flour mixture. Mix well.
  3. Then, in another bowl, mix your eggs, baking soda, buttermilk and vanilla. Add to the other mixture, mixing completely.
  4. Pour into a greased, floured jellyroll pan. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes.
  5. ICING: On low heat, melt together your butter, cocoa and milk.
  6. To this add your powdered sugar and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer.
  7. Make sure to ice the cake while it is HOT!
