chocolate pumpkin date nut bread

Another cookbook...another recipe. OMGosh is this good or what!?!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
  • 1 cup canned pure pumpkin (not pie filling)
  • 2 - eggs
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped dates
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (or more)

How To Make chocolate pumpkin date nut bread

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350. Grease a 9X5 loaf pan & set aside.
  • Step 2
    Beat together the butter, pumpkin, eggs and water. Set aside.
  • Step 3
    Sift together the sugar, flour, baking powder, baking soda, spices and salt. Stir into this the dates, nuts and chocolate chips to coat well.
  • Step 4
    Combine the two mixtures and blend well. Pour into prepared pan and bake @350 for 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours. Check for doneness at 1 1/4 hours.
  • Step 5
    Note: this bread will be moist and it freezes well.
  • Step 6
    Tip: You can use self rising flour instead of all purpose but please remember to omit the baking powder, baking soda and salt if you do this.
