This is a cake my mom would make for company. It is so rich and good. It is delicious with some fresh strawberries on the side and a dollop of whipped cream but can easily stand alone.

Ingredients

  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 1 c
    butter
  • 4 large
    eggs
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1
    4 oz bar german chocolate, melted
  • 3 c
    flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    buttermilk

How to Make Chocolate Pound Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Have all ingredients at room temperature. Cream sugar and butter until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time beating well after each addition.
  2. Add vanilla and melted chocolate.
  3. Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately to butter mixture with the buttermilk.
  4. Pour into a lightly greased tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. Let stand 10 minutes befire removing from pan.
  5. My mom also baked this in 2 loaf pans sometimes. All her recipe says is to reduce baking time but she did not say by how much.
