This is a cake my mom would make for company. It is so rich and good. It is delicious with some fresh strawberries on the side and a dollop of whipped cream but can easily stand alone.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 - 4 oz bar german chocolate, melted
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk

How To Make chocolate pound cake

  • Step 1
    Have all ingredients at room temperature. Cream sugar and butter until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time beating well after each addition.
  • Step 2
    Add vanilla and melted chocolate.
  • Step 3
    Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately to butter mixture with the buttermilk.
  • Step 4
    Pour into a lightly greased tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. Let stand 10 minutes befire removing from pan.
  • Step 5
    My mom also baked this in 2 loaf pans sometimes. All her recipe says is to reduce baking time but she did not say by how much.
