flour
1/4 tsp
baking powder
2 oz
unsweetened chocolate, melted
1/2 c
milk
1 tsp
vanilla extract

chopped walnuts

FOR THE GLAZE:

generous cup powdered sugar
1 tsp
unsalted butter, room temperature
1 oz
unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 tsp
vanilla extract
1/4 c
cup double strength coffee, brewed from freshly ground beans

How to Make Chocolate Fudge Squares with Mocha Glaze

Step-by-Step

  • 1Preheat oven to 350.
  • 2Butter an 8 inch square baking pan.
  • 3To make the squares in large bowl, cream butter with sugar and egg.
  • 4In small bowl, sift together flour and baking powder. Add to butter mixture.
  • 5Then add the melted chocolate, being careful not to overbeat. Add the milk, vanilla and walnuts, stirring just to blend. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  • 6Bake until edges begin to pull away from sides of pan and top springs back when pressed lightly, about 30 minutes. Allow cake to cool completely.
  • 7Meanwhile, to make the glaze, in medium bowl, mix the sugar, butter, chocolate and vanilla.
  • 8Stir in coffee and whisk until smooth. Refrigerate glaze until cool, then pour over the top of the cake and cut cake into squares.
  • 9Beating by hand ensures a rich creamy texture for these confections. Virtually any varietal or blend of coffee complements their intense chocolate flavor.
