chocolate date cake
I got this recipe today from a card playing group. Even though she left the topping off it was so delicious with a scoop of ice cream. Moist and very chocolaty, this is great for any occasion.

Ingredients
- 1 cup dates, halved
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup shortening or butter
- 2 teaspoons cocoa powder
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- TOPPING
- 1 package chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup nuts
How To Make chocolate date cake

Step 1Mix the dates with the boiling water and add the baking soda. Let cool.

Step 2Mix sugar, shortening, and cocoa powder.

Step 3Add eggs, vanilla, and flour.

Step 4Mix with date mixture.

Step 5Scoop into an 8x8 or 9x9 pan lined with parchment paper.

Step 6Add topping ingredients over the cake in pan.

Step 7Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes.
