semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
3/4 c
unsalted butter
2 Tbsp
unsalted butter
egg yolks
1 c
granulated sugar
1 Tbsp
vanilla extract
1 Tbsp
grand marnier
1 tsp
lemon juice
egg whites
1/2 c
granulated sugar
confectioners' sugar
2 c
heavy cream, whipped

How to Make Chocolate Cake with Grand Marnier


  • 1Melt chocolate and butter in double boiler.
  • 2Set aside to cool slightly.
  • 3Beat yolks and 1 cup sugar until smooth; stir in vanilla, grand marnier and lemon juice.
  • 4Blend in chocolate mixture.
  • 5Beat egg whites in large mixer bowl until soft peaks form.
  • 6Gradually add 1/2 cup sugar; beating until stiff peaks form.
  • 7Stir 1 cup of whites into chocolate mixture, then fold in remaining whites.
  • 8Pour batter into greased and floured 10 or 12 inch springform pan.
  • 9Bake in preheated 250 oven 2 1/2 hours.
  • 10Cool completely on rack before removing pan.
  • 11Sprinkle cake with powdered sugar and serve with whipped cream.
