My now ex-spouse was down on the kitchen table eating this out of the bowl one evening thinking it was chocolate pudding. It's light and creamy.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cake flour
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup cocoa
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 3 - eggs
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon double-acting baking powder

How To Make chocolate cake

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350F. Grease and flour two 9 inch round cake pans.
  • Step 2
    In medium bowl measure and sift flour, cocoa, baking soda, salt and baking powder.
  • Step 3
    Cream shortening with sugar. Add vanilla, eggs and milk on medium speed. Reduce speed to low and add flour mixture. Scrape bowl and raise speed to high for 5 minutes.
  • Step 4
    Pour batter into pans and bake 30-35 minutes until toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool completely before filling and frosting.
