- 2/3 cup shortening
- 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup slivered almonds, toasted
- 1 cup almond paste (not marzipan)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 4 - eggs
How To Make chocolate almond brownies

Step 1Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.

Step 3Chop up almonds paste into small pieces, add to flour mixture.

Step 4Heat shortening and chocolate in 3-quart saucepan over low heat.

Step 5Beat eggs and sugar until light.

Step 6Add cooled chocolate mixture to eggs and sugar.

Step 7Add flour mixture to chocolate mixture.

Step 8Mix in toasted almonds.

Step 9Spread into a greased 9 x 13 pan.

Step 10Bake until brownies begin to pull away from the sides of pan, about 30 minutes. Do not overbake.

Step 11Cool slightly. Cut into bars, about 2 x 1 1/2 inches.
