unsweetened chocolate
2 c
1 1/4 c
all purpose flour
1 c
slivered almonds, toasted
1 c
almond paste (not marzipan)
1 tsp
baking powder
2 tsp

How to Make Chocolate Almond Brownies


  • 1Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • 2Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  • 3Chop up almonds paste into small pieces, add to flour mixture.
  • 4Heat shortening and chocolate in 3-quart saucepan over low heat.
  • 5Beat eggs and sugar until light.
  • 6Add cooled chocolate mixture to eggs and sugar.
  • 7Add flour mixture to chocolate mixture.
  • 8Mix in toasted almonds.
  • 9Spread into a greased 9 x 13 pan.
  • 10Bake until brownies begin to pull away from the sides of pan, about 30 minutes. Do not overbake.
  • 11Cool slightly. Cut into bars, about 2 x 1 1/2 inches.
  • 12195 calories per brownie.
  • 13If using self rising flour, omit baking powder and salt.
