Ingredients

·2 sticks butter or margarine

·1 box brown sugar ( lb.)

·1 c. granulated sugar

·4 egg yolks
-
·2 c. all purpose flour

·2 tsp. baking powder
-
·1/4 tsp salt
-
·1 c. broken nuts
-
·1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
-
·4 egg whites
How to Make Chess Cake
- Melt butter; add both sugars and blend well.
- Add egg yolks and beat well.
- Sift flour, baking powder, and salt. Add to creamed mixture.
- Fold in nuts and vanilla.
- Beat egg whites until stiff; fold into creamed mixture.
- Spread batter in greased and floured 9x13 pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 30-45 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
- This cake is suppose to sink in the center. If overcooked the outside edges will get hard.
