I got this recipe out of the alumni cookbook of the college I graduated from. I've made it many times over the past 30 years. It's rich but boy is it good. My boys love it topped with ice cream.

Ingredients
- - 2 sticks butter or margarine
- - 1 box brown sugar ( lb.)
- - 1 c. granulated sugar
- - 4 egg yolks
- - 2 c. all purpose flour
- - 2 tsp. baking powder
- - 1/4 tsp salt
- - 1 c. broken nuts
- - 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- - 4 egg whites
How To Make chess cake

Step 1Melt butter; add both sugars and blend well.

Step 2Add egg yolks and beat well.

Step 3Sift flour, baking powder, and salt. Add to creamed mixture.

Step 4Fold in nuts and vanilla.

Step 5Beat egg whites until stiff; fold into creamed mixture.

Step 6Spread batter in greased and floured 9x13 pan.

Step 7Bake at 350 degrees for 30-45 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Step 8This cake is suppose to sink in the center. If overcooked the outside edges will get hard.
