This is a very old recipe that has been handed down through my family. It will handle anyone's sweet tooth.

light brown sugar
1/2 c
granulated sugar
2 c
all purpose flour
1 tsp
pure vanilla extract

How to Make Chess Cake


  • 1In a sauce pan over low heat, melt the butter and brown sugar, then remove from heat and add the remaining ingredients, mixing well.
  • 2Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Transfer cake batter to a prepared 13 x 9 x 2 pan and bake 45 minutes. There will be very moist crumbs when tested. Dust with powdered sugar while still warm.
  • 3This can also be rolled in walnut sized balls and rolled in powdered while still warm. Butter hands well to prevent sticking and take care to not burn yourself.
