this cake is soft, consistency of a white cake, and so flavorful.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 jar maraschino cherries drained, chopped, save juice
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 4 - egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

How To Make cherry nut cake

  • Step 1
    in large bowl sift dry ingredients together
  • Step 2
    stir in milk
  • Step 3
    add eggs beating well with mixer after each
  • Step 4
    add vanilla and beat 2 minutes on high,
  • Step 5
    stir in cherries and nuts
  • Step 6
    pour into prepared cake pan. two layer or one 13X9
  • Step 7
    bake 350 degrees 25 to 30 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Step 8
    frost with buttercream frosting. I use the saved cherry juice and almond flavoring to frosting ingredients.
