This is the very first coffeecake I made when I was learning to bake! That was over 40 years ago and it still impresses my guests.

Ingredients
- CAKE
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 - eggs
- 1 cup canola oil
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tablespoon plus 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 can cherry pie filling
- POWDERED SUGAR GLAZE
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon butter, softened
- - milk if needed
How To Make cherry coffeecake

Step 1Cream together the sugar, eggs and oil.

Step 2Add the remaining ingredients and mix well.

Step 3Pour half of the batter into a greased and floured 9x13 pan.

Step 4Put cherry pie filling (or any pie filling you prefer) on top of batter and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Step 5Top with rest of the batter.

Step 6Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes or until tests done.

Step 7Mix glaze ingredients together until smooth.

Step 8Glaze while warm with powdered sugar icing. Serve warm or at room temperature.
