Mom made this cake every year for Dad's birthday and it's one of Aunt Stephanie's favorites. It even went for $150.00 at a cake auction fundraiser at our church....albeit, my dad just really wanted the cake and got in a bidding battle with our bishop. Good times.

Ingredients

  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • 4 cans cream cheese frosting
  • 2 slices bread
  • 1 package cherry chip cake mix (sarah lee or betty crocker is best)
  • 3 large eggs
  • - applesauce (to replace vegetable oil. mum never used vegetable oil in cake)
  • - water (according to recipe on box)
  • 2 - round 9'' cake pans

How To Make cherry chip cream cheese cake

  • Step 1
Preheat oven according to directions on the cake mix box.
  • Step 2
Blend wet ingredients first, then dry ingredients separately.
  • Step 3
Blend wet and dry ingredients, separate batter into pans accordingly, and bake.
  • Step 4
Once golden brown, remove from oven and allow to cool. Once cooled, remove cake from one pan and place on a cake plate.
  • Step 5
Shave down the puffy top of your first cake to make it level before applying a thick layer of frosting on it. You can add a few cherries on this layer for an extra nice filling.
  • Step 6
Put your second cake on top and frost entirely. Finish by drizzling cherry filling on top. Voila
