cassies cinnamon apple shortcake
This dessert is another comfort food my Gram always made..tart apples with cinnamon sauce, and a not too sweet cake..one of my faves, I used to put mine in a bowl straight out of the oven, and pour lil milk on it, mmmmmmmmmmso good!

Ingredients
- 8 large granny smith apples, sliced thin
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3 teaspoons apple spice, or cinnamon, i used cinnamon, had no apple spice
- CAKE TOPPING
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup butter flavor shortening..i used regular crisco
- 1 - egg, whipped
- 3/4 cup milk
How To Make cassies cinnamon apple shortcake

Step 1Preheat oven to 350

Step 2Peel apples and slice thin, pile high in a 8x8 pan..make sure you use plenty of apples, as they will cook down..

Step 3Mix the sugar and spice, pour on the apples, and put them in the oven to start cooking, while you prepare the cake. A good 25 minutes..

Step 4Cake batter: Sift the flour,baking powder and salt. In another bowl, cream the shortening,sugar and egg.

Step 5Alternate flour mix with ¾ c. milk into the creamed sugar mixture.

Step 6Remove apples from the oven. spoon the batter on the apples, I spread it around with a spatula, the batter is a bit on the thick side.

Step 7Bake for 30-35 min till light golden brown. Spoon out in bowls, add ice cream ,whipped topping, or nothing at all..It is good all by itself.. Enjoy!
