caramel apple crisp

This has been one of my favorite crisp recipes. I have cut the recipe a little to fit an 8x8 pan and mixed around some spices. Love love this, its a keeper and freezes well.

Ingredients

  • FILLING:
  • 5 large apples- peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup water
  • CRUMBLE:
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup quick cooking oats
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • TOPPING:
  • 1/4 cup caramel apple dip (optional)
  • - ice cream or whipped topping (optional)

How To Make caramel apple crisp

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350°
  • Step 2
    In a medium bowl, toss Apple Filling ingredients (apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, lemon juice and water). Spread evenly into an 8x8 in pan. In another bowl, mix Crumble ingredients (flour, brown sugar, oats and butter). Use hand held pastry blender or two knives to cut up butter and blend with other ingredients until pea size. Spoon mix evenly over apples. Bake in oven for approx 45-55 min (apple mix will bubble and topping should be golden brown)
  • Step 3
    Heat the caramel dip in microwave on low heat and drizzle over top of the crumble.
  • Step 4
    Serve with ice cream if desired
