A couple of years ago my fiance wanted a butternut cake for his birthday, ok no problem i found the recipe on Flora's Recipes, the problem was finding BUTTERNUT FLAVORING!!!!!!, i looked every where for it, finally i had to order it online, didn't cost a lot, just not readily available in our area. But wow the cake was awesome, and even better 3 days later

Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 - eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon butternut flavoring
  • BUTTERNUT FROSTING
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 box confectioners' sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butternut flavoring
  • 1 cup chopped nuts( i used pecans)
  • 1 stick butter

How To Make butternut cake

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350. Mix shortening and sugar in a large bowl. Add and beat eggs into mixture one at a time. Add flour, baking powder, salt and milk. Beat well. Add vanilla and butternut flavoring. Beat well. Pour into 2 greased and floured cake pans or a bundt pan.
  • Step 2
    Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes, Cook cake before icing.
  • Step 3
    Let cream cheese and butter come to room temp. Beat all ingredients together, frost cooled cake.
  • Step 4
    I have used this same recipe and just swapped the butternut for other flavors
