This is an old recipe of my mother-in-law's. There is no time or number of servings. It is a good cake recipe.

  • 1/2 c
  • 2 large
  • 2 c
  • 1 c
    pecans, in pieces
  • 1 c
    raisins boiled & cooled and rolled in flour
  • 3 c
  • 2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    ground cloves
  • 1 tsp
    ground allspice
  • 1 tsp
    ground cinnomon
  • 1/2 tsp

How to Make Buttermilk Cake


  1. Cream sugar,butter and eggs. Sift dry ingredients together, then add to wet ingredients.Mix well. Bake in a 11x17 inch pan at 350 degrees until done.Use a cake tester or wooden pick in center; if it comes out clean it is done.
  2. Frosting
    2 cups brown sugar
    3/4 cup of heavy cream
    1 tablespoon of butter
    2 tsp vanilla
    Boil brown sugar, cream to soft-ball stage. Take off heat.Add butter,cool.Add vanilla,beat until it loses its gloss.Frost the cake with the frosting.
