buttermilk cake
(1 RATING)
This recipe was given to me by my mother in law. The cake tastes great, the top crust will be very hard or 'crunchy looking', but the inside will be very moist. Doesn't need any kind of icing or topping either. I make several of these a year, even for holidays, my family loves it. They have been known to eat just the top crust, they say it's the best part! Enjoy, I think you will love it!

Ingredients
- 1 cup crisco
- 3 cups sugar
- 4 - eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 3 cups flour
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/3 teaspoon baking soda
- - angel food cake pan
How To Make buttermilk cake
-
Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease & flour angel food cake pan well.
-
Step 2Place sugar, vanilla, eggs & Crisco in large mixing bowl & cream together well. Mixture may have a 'grainy' look to it because of the sugar, no need to worry about it.
-
Step 3While above is mixing, measure flour & set aside. Add Baking Soda to flour. Measure buttermilk & set aside.
-
Step 4To sugar mixture, alternate flour & buttermilk a little at a time, mixing well after each addition, until all gone.
-
Step 5Pour mixture into pan & place on center oven rack. Bake for 1 hour (probably more than 1 hour due to different oven types). DO NOT OPEN OVEN FOR 1 HOUR.
