Buttercream Filling for a "HoHo Cake"

1/2 cbutter, softened
1 1/3 tsppure vanilla extract
How to Make Buttercream Filling for a "HoHo Cake"
- Bake your favorite chocolate cake according to recipe or directions for a mix. (I use Duncan Hines Dark Chocolate Fudge.)
- Gradually whisk milk and cornstarch together in small saucepan until smooth.
Cook over med/low heat whisking constantly until mixture thickens and boils.
Place saucepan in large bowl of ice water, stirring occasionally, until mixture cools.
- Beat butter and shortening until creamy.
Beat in sugar until light and fluffy.
Add cooled cornstarch mixture and vanilla and beat until creamy.
- Spread filling between layers of chocolate cake and refrigerate 30 minutes to set the filling.
Frost as desired (I make a chocolate ganache.)
