Ingredients

  • 2 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1.75 cups sifted flour
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cardamon, ground
  • 1 tablespoon cloves, ground
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 - eggs
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • GLAZE INGREDIENTS
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla or rum extract

How To Make brown sugar cake

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  • Step 2
    Grease and flour 9 cup tube (bundt) pan.
  • Step 3
    In large bowl combine dry ingredients.
  • Step 4
    Add buttermilk, eggs and melted butter.
  • Step 5
    Beat well.
  • Step 6
    Add nuts if desired.
  • Step 7
    Pour into prepared pan.
  • Step 8
    Bake for 50 minutes or until tests done.
  • Step 9
    Cool in pan 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Step 10
    Turn out onto wire rack or plate and cool.
  • Step 11
    Top with Butterscotch Glaze: In sauce pan, combine butter, brown sugar and milk.
  • Step 12
    Bring to full boil, add sugar and extract.
  • Step 13
    Beat until smooth.
  • Step 14
    Add more milk to make a good consistency for drizzling if necessary.
