Ingredients

3/4 c
sugar
1/4 c
shortening
1
egg
1 c
all purpose flour
1.5 tsp
baking powder
1/2 tsp
salt
1/2 c
milk
1/2 tsp
vanilla
2 c
vanilla pudding package, frozen or homemade

GLAZE INGREDIENTS

1/4 c
chocolate pieces
1 Tbsp
butter
1/2 c
confectioners' sugar
1.5 Tbsp
milk

How to Make Boston Creme Cake

Step-by-Step

  • 1Cream together sugar and shortening until light and fluffy.
  • 2Beat in egg.
  • 3Combine flour, baking powder and salt and add alternately with milk and vanilla to creamed mixture.
  • 4Pour into greased and floured 9-inch round cake pan.
  • 5Bake in 350 degree oven 25 minutes.
  • 6Remove from pan and cool on rack.
  • 7When cold, cut cake into two layers.
  • 8Spread bottom layer with pudding.
  • 9Top with second layer.
  • 10Pour chocolate glaze over top allowing some drizzle down sides.
  • 11Chocolate Glaze: Melt 1/4 cup chocolate pieces with one tablespoon butter or margarine.
  • 12Remove from heat and stir in 1/2 cup unsifted powdered sugar alternately with 1 1/2 tablespoons milk.
