Better than Reeses Bars

Deneece Gursky

My family loves peanut butter so today when I realised all the baked goods had disappeared lol I decided to go ahead and pop something quick in the oven. I was going to do soething fruity until my daughter and my step dad decided otherwise. they were doing a little laurel and hardy act in the middle of my kitchen with a peanut butter jar. nuff said lol. Anyway I made 18 of these at around noon, its 2:45 and there are two left. Looks like i better get back to baking lolol.
The icing tastes like peanut butter cups and the bars, even though they are chock full of peanut butter are so moist and delicious. The chocolate chips melted and add just the right amount of chocolatey goodness to them.

How to Make Better than Reeses Bars

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Spray your baking pan with non stick cooking spray. (I used my perfect brownie pan, cause i am addicted to it lol. But you can use a 13 x 9 pan. The end result withe the perfect brownie pan probably produces a thicker bar since the pan is smaller.)
  2. Put cake mix, peanut butter, water and egg in a large bowl and mix on low speed. Then on medium speed until you have a soft dough.
  3. Add chocolate chips and work into dough with clean hands
  4. Cover baking pan bottom evenly with dough and press down to fit entire pan.
  5. If using perfect brownie pan, insert divider now
  6. Bake in oven 20 to 25 minutes or until bars look golden and are puffed up.(in the brownie pan it took 22 minutes) Remove and cool completely.
  7. Cut bars and transfer to serving plate.
  8. In small bowl combine frosting, and peanut butter. Mix on low speed till well blended
  9. Add vanilla and blend in well
  10. Frost cooled bars with frosting and decorate with sprinkles or chopped nuts. (I usually pipe my frosting on so it looks pretty but I wanted these to have frosting on every bit lol)
  11. Grab a bar and a big glass of ice cold milk and enjoy. But better hurry up cause they dont stay on the plate long.
