- 1/2 cup margarine
- 1 cup water
- 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 - eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- FROSTING INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 cup margarine
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 1 pound powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk

Step 1Cake Directions:

Step 2Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9x13-inch pan.

Step 3In a microwave-safe bowl, microwave chocolate, margarine and water until melted. Stir occasionally until chocolate is smooth. Allow to cool to room temperature.

Step 4In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, salt and soda. Pour in milk and eggs. Mix the cooled chocolate mixture into the batter. Pour into prepared pan.

Step 5Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean.

Step 6Frosting Directions:

Step 7In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in cocoa and vanilla.

Step 8Place confectioners' sugar in a large bowl. Pour in cocoa mixture. Beat well (mixture will be extremely thick).

Step 9Beat in milk, a teaspoon at a time, until desired consistency is achieved.
