shortening, (not oil)
good quality beer, not a light beer
butter, not margarine, melt butter slowly
How to Make Beer Cake with Caramel Frosting
1Cream sugar and shortening together, add beaten eggs.
2In another bowl sift flour, spices, soda and salt together.
3Add flour and beer alternately to the sugar mixture. Starting and ending with the flour mixture. Beat well.
4Pour into a prepared bundt pan and bake at 350 degrees for about an hour or until cake tester comes out clean.
5Frost with the caramel frosting or it is also very good left plain.
6NOTE: Dates and or nuts can also be added to this cake. I added pecans to mine.
8Combine butter and brown sugar in a sauce pan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until sugar disolves.
9Add milk and bring to a boil. Stiring not to let stick or burn.
10Remove from heat and cool slightly. Add powdered sugar and beat to a smooth spreading consistency.
