beer cake with caramel frosting
This is from another cooking site, and is a wonderful cake. The Caramel frosting will lend itself well to other cake recipes.

Ingredients
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 1 cup shortening, (not oil)
- 2 - eggs, beaten
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 3 cups flour
- 12 ounces good quality beer, not a light beer
- CARAMEL FROSTING
- 1/2 cup butter, not margarine, melt butter slowly
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups powered sugar
How To Make beer cake with caramel frosting

Step 1Cream sugar and shortening together, add beaten eggs.

Step 2In another bowl sift flour, spices, soda and salt together.

Step 3Add flour and beer alternately to the sugar mixture. Starting and ending with the flour mixture. Beat well.

Step 4Pour into a prepared bundt pan and bake at 350 degrees for about an hour or until cake tester comes out clean.

Step 5Frost with the caramel frosting or it is also very good left plain.

Step 6NOTE: Dates and or nuts can also be added to this cake. I added pecans to mine.

Step 7CARAMEL FROSTING

Step 8Combine butter and brown sugar in a sauce pan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until sugar disolves.

Step 9Add milk and bring to a boil. Stiring not to let stick or burn.

Step 10Remove from heat and cool slightly. Add powdered sugar and beat to a smooth spreading consistency.

Step 11Spread on cool cake.
