This is from another cooking site, and is a wonderful cake. The Caramel frosting will lend itself well to other cake recipes.

Ingredients

2 c
brown sugar
1 c
shortening, (not oil)
2
eggs, beaten
1 tsp
ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp
ground allspice
1/2 tsp
ground cloves
2 tsp
baking soda
2 tsp
salt
3 c
flour
12 oz
good quality beer, not a light beer

CARAMEL FROSTING

1/2 c
butter, not margarine, melt butter slowly
1 c
brown sugar
1/4 c
milk
1/4 tsp
salt
1 tsp
vanilla extract
2 c
powered sugar

How to Make Beer Cake with Caramel Frosting

Step-by-Step

  • 1Cream sugar and shortening together, add beaten eggs.
  • 2In another bowl sift flour, spices, soda and salt together.
  • 3Add flour and beer alternately to the sugar mixture. Starting and ending with the flour mixture. Beat well.
  • 4Pour into a prepared bundt pan and bake at 350 degrees for about an hour or until cake tester comes out clean.
  • 5Frost with the caramel frosting or it is also very good left plain.
  • 6NOTE: Dates and or nuts can also be added to this cake. I added pecans to mine.
  • 7CARAMEL FROSTING
  • 8Combine butter and brown sugar in a sauce pan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until sugar disolves.
  • 9Add milk and bring to a boil. Stiring not to let stick or burn.
  • 10Remove from heat and cool slightly. Add powdered sugar and beat to a smooth spreading consistency.
  • 11Spread on cool cake.
