Ingredients

  • 2 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 3 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup chopped candied dates
  • 2 - eggs
  • 2 cups beer

How To Make beer cake

  • Step 1
    CREAM BROWN SUGAR AND SHORTENING UNTIL SMOOTH.
  • Step 2
    ADD EGGS BLENDING WELL.
  • Step 3
    COMBINE DRY INGREDIENTS, ADD TO CREAMED MIXTURE ALTERNATING WITH BEER, BEATING WELL AFTER EACH ADDITION.
  • Step 4
    STIR IN PECANS AND DATES.
  • Step 5
    SPOON INTO 10 TUBE PAN (ANGLE FOOD CAKE PAN).
  • Step 6
    BAKE AT 350* FOR 1 HOUR 15 MINUTES, OR BAKE IN A 13X9X2 PAN FOR 1 HOUR.
  • Step 7
    ICING ANY HOMEMADE CARMEL FROSTING OR USE BETTER CROCKER BUTTER PECAN FROSTING.
