AT MY FAMILY REUNION IT LAST ABOUT 10 MINUTES AFTER CUTTING. IT'S JUST A WONDERFUL SPICE CAKE.

Ingredients

2 c
brown sugar, firmly packed
1 c
shortening
3 c
self-rising flour
1 1/2 Tbsp
ground cinnamon
1 tsp
ground cloves
1 tsp
ground allspice
1 c
chopped pecans
1 c
chopped candied dates
2
eggs
2 c
beer

Step-By-Step

1CREAM BROWN SUGAR AND SHORTENING UNTIL SMOOTH.
2ADD EGGS BLENDING WELL.
3COMBINE DRY INGREDIENTS, ADD TO CREAMED MIXTURE ALTERNATING WITH BEER, BEATING WELL AFTER EACH ADDITION.
4STIR IN PECANS AND DATES.
5SPOON INTO 10 TUBE PAN (ANGLE FOOD CAKE PAN).
6BAKE AT 350* FOR 1 HOUR 15 MINUTES, OR BAKE IN A 13X9X2 PAN FOR 1 HOUR.
7ICING ANY HOMEMADE CARMEL FROSTING OR USE BETTER CROCKER BUTTER PECAN FROSTING.
