Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 - eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla, or flavoring of your choice
How To Make basic vanilla cake

Step 1In a large bowl sift together flour, salt and baking powder and set aside.

Step 2Add flavoring to milk and set aside.

Step 3Cream together shortening, butter, sugar and mix until light and fluffy about 5 minutes.

Step 4With mixer on low add eggs one at a time mixing well after each one.

Step 5With mixer still on low alternate flour mixture and milk mixture beginning and ending with flour mixture. Dont over mix!

Step 6Pour into 2-3 prepared 8 or 9 inch pans or cupcake liners filling them only half way.

Step 7Bake in a 325 degreese oven until toothpick is inserted and comes out with moist crumbs.

Step 8If your cake if slightly domed when you take it out of the oven quickly place a paper towl directly on the cake and lightly press down. This will keep you from having to level and loose part of your cake. Give it a try and let me know it it works for you.
