Basic Yellow Cake

You can use this basic recipe to make several flavors of cake simply by adding a box of your favorite flavor of jello or instant pudding.

1/2 c

1 box
jello or instant pudding, your choice of flavor, opt.
1 1/2 c
milk or buttermilk
3 c
all purpose flour
1 tsp
1 Tbsp
baking powder
1 tsp
vanilla, or flavoring of your choice

How to Make Basic Yellow Cake


  • 1In a large bowl sift together flour, salt and baking powder and set aside.
  • 2Add flavoring to milk and set aside.
  • 3Cream together shortening, butter, sugar and your choice of jello or pudding mix until light and fluffy about 5 minutes.
  • 4With mixer on low add eggs one at a time mixing well after each one.
  • 5With mixer still on low alternate flour mixture and milk mixture beginning and ending with flour mixture. Dont over mix!
  • 6Pour into 2-3 prepared 8 or 9 inch pans or cupcake liners filling them only half way.
  • 7Bake in a 325 degreese oven until toothpick is inserted and comes out with moist crumbs.
  • 8If your cake if slightly domed when you take it out of the oven quickly place a paper towl directly on the cake and lightly press down. This will keep you from having to level and loose part of your cake. Give it a try and let me know it it works for you.
