Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter,softened (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs, at room temp
  • 3/4 cup milk

How To Make basic butter cake

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350. Butter and flour 2 9 inch round cake pan.Line with waxed paper and butter the paper. Sift flour,baking powder and salt into a large bowl. Beat the butter,sugar and vanilla in a large bowl with an electric mixer at medium speed until creamy. Add eggs,one at a time,until just blended after each addition. With mixer at low speed, gradually beat in dry ingredients, alternating with the milk. Spoon the batter into the prepared pan.
  • Step 2
    Bake for 45-55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes. Turn out onto a rack. Carefully remove the waxed paper and let cool completely.
