This is a an old-fashioned flavored gingerbread. It's good served with vanilla ice cream or hot applesauce.

Ingredients

butter or margarine
1/2 c
granulated sugar
1/2 c
brown sugar
1 tsp
vanilla
2
eggs
3/4 c
molasses
2 c
all-purpose flour
1 Tbsp
unsweetened cocoa
1 1/2 tsp
ground cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp
ground nutmeg
1 tsp
baking powder
1 tsp
baking soda
3/4 c
buttermilk
1 1/2 tsp
ginger

How to Make Bar Harbor Gingerbread

Step-by-Step

  • 1Cream until light and fluffy the butter,white sugar and brown sugar. Beat in the vanilla and eggs. Blend in the molasses.
  • 2Combine flour, cocoa, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, baking powder and soda in a bowl.
  • 3Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture alternately with the buttermilk. Be sure to beat well after each addition.
  • 4Pour into a well greased bundt or tube pan. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes at 350 degrees or until cake tests done.
  • 5Cool cake for 30 minutes. Turn out on rack to complete cooling.
