This recipe comes from my husband's godmother. It's her husband's favorite dessert. Eventhough she personally does not like bananas, she makes this dessert for him every year for his birthday.

Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups cake flour
- 1 2/3 cups sugar
- 1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup shortening/crisco
- 1 1/4 cups banana - mashed
- 2 - eggs
- 2/3 cup walnuts
- 2/3 cup buttermilk
How To Make banana cake

Step 1Stir shortening to soften. Sift in dry ingredients. Add bananas and half the buttermilk. Mix until flour is dampened. Beat two minutes. Add remaining buttermilk and eggs. Beat two minutes. Fold in walnuts.

Step 2Grease and flour 2 round cake pans. Bake at 350* for 35 minutes. Let cakes cool and frost.

Step 3Frosting: ¼ c. butter 1 ½ t. vanilla 3 t. flour ½ c. margarine ¾ c. milk ¾ c. sugar Combine butter and flour. Add milk and cook until it thickens. Cool to room temperature by covering with wax paper. Mix vanilla, sugar, and margarine together; cream until fluffy. Add to milk mixture and beat for five minutes.
