I always knew it was something special when mom would make this. Around the holidays or when family was coming for a visit. When we were little we thought we were being so naughty because of the rum. Tons of good memories with this one.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • SIFT THESE 4 INGREDIENTS TOGETHER--2 TIMES
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 4 - eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons rum extract
  • RUM CAKE GLAZE
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • BRING TO BOIL- LET COOL TO WARM
  • WHEN WARM ADD THESE:
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon rum extract

How To Make aunt grace's rum cake

  • Step 1
    Cream together butter and sugar, add eggs one at a time, beating well after each egg.
  • Step 2
    Add buttermilk alternately with dry ingredients.
  • Step 3
    Bake in slow oven 325 degrees for 1 hour (may take longer depending on your oven)in well greased & floured bundt pan.
  • Step 4
    Let cake cool slightly before turning out of the pan. Use pastry brush to apply glaze to slightly warm cake.
