This is a recipe that my great aunt gave each girl when she got married, I remember when I got my copy. I always thought her last name was "Pounds" because of this cake.

prep time 20 Min
cook time 1 Hr
method ---
yield 8-12 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 1 pound butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 12 - eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

How To Make aunt aileen's pound cake

  • Step 1
Preheat oven to 350* Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, then add vanilla and salt. Keep mixing until mixture is beginning to looked whipped.
  • Step 2
Add flour and baking powder to mixture 1/2 cup at a time.
  • Step 3
Grease and flour a tube pan. Pour cake batter into greased and floured pan. Shake it a little to make sure it is even in the pan then pick it up a few inches off the counter (2 or 3 inches) and drop it back onto the counter three or four times. (Gets rid of air bubbles for more even baking.) Bake for 1 hour 15 minutes. (A bunt pan can be used and Baker's Joy can also be used.)
