This recipe is one from my dear friend's childhood days. She is a fantastic cook and so was her mother. I am posting this in the honor of my friend, Jeri McClendon. Next Friday, Oct.15 is her birthday.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/2 cups applesauce
- 2 teaspoons soda
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice, ground
- 1 cup raisins
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
How To Make applesauce raisin cake

Step 1Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and applesauce. Blend well with mixer. combine soda and boiling water. Add to creamed mixture. Add dry ingredients. Mix well, then add raisins and nuts. Pour mixture into greased and floured bunt pan.Bake at 350 degree in pre heated oven for about one hour. Should be a nice golden brown color.
