I love apples and this cake is the best. My family love it. I often take these to church as a snack with coffee.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups unbleached all purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa, unsweetened
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1-1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups applesauce, unsweetened
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

How To Make applesauce cakes

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350.
  • Step 2
    Grease and flour 9X13 inch pan. Sift together the flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt in a bowl. Det aside.
  • Step 3
    In a large bowl cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, using an electric mixer set on medium speed.
  • Step 4
    Beat in the eggs one at a time. Blend in the vanilla extract. Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the applesauce.
  • Step 5
    Pour the batter into a 9x13 inch baking pan. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and chopped walnuts.
  • Step 6
    Bake at 350 for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Cool in the pan on a wire rack. This can easily be made in a cupcake pan.
