This Apple Upside- Down Cake is so good....I made it One year for Thanksgiving. By accident I left out the buttermilk !! But you know what it came out perfect anyways!!! Hope who ever makes this cake will enjoy it almost as much as I did making it.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 sticks butter, room temperature
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 2 large granny smith apples---peeled, cored and cut into 1/2 to 1 inch cubes
- 1/2 cup coarsely chopped hazelnuts or almonds
- 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom or cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon sat
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup buttermilk

Step 1PREHEAT OVEN 350 DEGREES BUTTER A DEEP DISH 9 INCH ROUND PIE PLATE. iN MEDIUM SAUCE PAN MELT 4 TBS. BUTTER.

Step 2aDD BROWN SUGAR AND MAPLE SYRUP AND STIR OVER MEDIUM HEAT UNTILL SUGAR BUBBLES. rEMOVE FROM HEAT STIR IN THE APPLES, NUTS, LEMON JUICE, CINNAMON AND A PINCH OF SALT.

Step 3SPREAD THE MIXTURE OVER THE BOTTOM OF THE PREPARED PIE PAN. iN A MEDIUM BOWL WHISK TOGETHER THE FLOUR, BAKING POWDER AND 1/4 TSP. SALT SET ASIDE.

Step 4iN MIXER BEAT REMAINING 8 TBS. OF Butter untill smooth add sugar beat on medium speed, untill light and fluffy. Add eggs 1 at a time untill incoperated, mix vanilla add flour mixture in 3 parts alterating buttermilk.
